5 brilliant wedding game ideas

Let’s be honest – we’ve all been to a boring wedding.

Clearly, this wasn’t the intention of the poor bride and groom. To be honest, they probably weren’t even aware of just how boring it was, and at the end of the day, that doesn’t really matter.

It’s their day after all, isn’t it?

While that’s true, we all want our wedding day to be memorable for everyone who attends, and a great way to ensure yours sticks in the minds of your guests is to put on a few imaginative games.

Here are five wedding game ideas to get you started.

1. Smash that piñata!

If you’ve ever donned a blindfold and pounded relentlessly at an object hanging from the ceiling, you’ll know how much fun a piñata can be.

Why not add one to your wedding day celebrations? This North American tradition is a firm favourite in that part of the world for very good reason, and if you fill the piñata with sweets or other goodies, the kids will remember your big day for a very long time too!

2. Beer Pong

Because, why not?

Sometimes referred to as ‘Beirut’, beer pong is a brilliantly simple drinking game which encourages players to try and throw ping pong balls into a cup.

Get it in the cup, and you have to drink the contents.

Let the fun begin!

3. Giant Connect Four (and other garden-based favourites)

Lots of wedding venues have realised the value in having giant classic games in their gardens, and for good reason.

A giant Connect Four game, for instance, is the perfect way to distract your guests in that tricky time between the wedding breakfast and the evening’s dancing.

There’s loads more games you can add, too. Mini golf, giant draughts and Twister are just some examples of games which will keep guests (big and small) busy and entertained while the day progresses.

4. Wedding speech bingo

Wedding speeches are nerve-wracking experiences for those who have to take to the mic, so why not have a bit of fun with yours and encourage guest participation?

Wedding speech bingo is a great way to do just that. Simply create a bunch of cards with some common wedding speech sayings (“I remember when…”, “every father…”, “I’m going to keep this short…” – that kind of thing) and leave them on the tables.

Make sure the people delivering speeches are aware of the cards and buy a few small prizes for anyone who grabs a full house.

5. A mini arcade

If you’re both particularly fond of gaming (or even if you aren’t) and your wedding venue has the room, a mini arcade is a great idea to keep guests entertained during the various moments of downtime.

All you need is a couple of TVs and games consoles, a bunch of games and a room in which to set it all up.

If you’re worried about people spending hours in there, just make sure you have a games room ‘opening and closing time’, which coincides with the end of the wedding breakfast and the start of the evening’s celebrations (i.e. the time during which most people tend to fall into a slightly-drunk slumber).

Wrapping up

See? Weddings can be fun in the most unusual of ways – you just need to think creatively when it comes to the games you put on for guests.

The good news? Most people let their guards down and have a great time at weddings, therefore you’re almost guaranteed plenty of participation, no matter what ideas you throw in front of your guests!
